Would You Attack Your Mummy?

Would you take pleasure in destroying your cultural heritage?

A number of artefacts and exhibits at the The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities (MEA) have suffered damage after looters broke into the attraction during the anti-government protests last week.

"It is believed that nine men got in the museum and decapitated two mummies and damaged other items, before the museum was cordoned off by the military as well as a group of protesters wanting to protect the museum.

A spokesperson for MEA said the damage is still being assessed but that officials are confident that the artefacts can be restored and repaired.
The museum houses world's largest collection of Pharaonic antiquities as well as nine mummies"

How sad, and ridiculous that these artefacts that have survived all this time are damaged in such a senseless way. I doubt those involved were trying to make any political point, simply using the demonstrations as an excuse to destroy and do what they liked.

It's not an attitude limited to Egypt as we saw in London a few weeks ago at the Cenotaph and other places.
